About the dudeguyman blog...

Welcome to The Modern Machismo!
This is the first post of hopefully many firsts on the first attempt at a blog.

The Modern Machismo came to The Dude's head in a New England barbeque restaurant a couple weeks back (I know, ten years ago in the southeast, I never would have thought that there was good barbeque in New England) . I, the dude, do have a name but i feel that at the moment I'm going to keep on being the dude. I sat back and contemplated my life and what I wanted to do with it. I've always thought about running a brew-pub or a bar as a top option and I'm not really sure how being a college communications major is going to get me there - but that's another story. The pulled pork came out so i was distracted for a bit, then when I came back to the thought the whole "being a communications major" thing came in. I began to realize that there really aren't any mainstream magazines or publications out there that are about guy stuff. I mean sure there are things like Maxim, GQ, Esquire, etc. but how many of those look at the lighter side of things. They all seem too serious (sans Maxim). An interesting trend that I tend to see in men's magazines is that they tie themselves to a certain age group or product. Cigar Aficianado, for example, is a men's magazine that focuses on - Duh - cigars. Even then, the magazine branches out and goes on about many other "manly" subjects. Where is the magazine that's about beer? I looked for weeks to answer this question and the only thing I came up with was "All About Beer" magazine, and let me tell you - I wasn't impressed.

I put manly in quotes a second ago because I don't think manly is entirely the theme I want to put across here. An outgoing, fun, and adventurous lifestyle is mostly what I want to see, read, or hear about. I use machismo loosely.

So, the wheels upstairs started turning, and I thought about what would be a good stepping stone to even consider acting on all the ideas in my head. And here you are, reading the ideas as they come. So first off, to let you readers gauge The Dude's views on the subjects are a few of his dudeguyman top 5s.
